# Windows Installation Instructions for CS Remote
Thank you for purchasing and downloading CS Remote. This guide will help you install, activate, and configure the application on your Windows computer.
## 1. Installation, Download and Extract
1. Locate the downloaded zip file (e.g., `cs_remote_windows_n.n.n.zip`).
- Right-click the zip file and select **Extract All...**
- Choose a destination folder for the application. You can place this anywhere you like, such as your `Desktop`, `Documents`, or a dedicated tools folder like `Documents\ColourSpace-Tools\CS_Patch_Translator`.
- **Important:** Do not try to run the application directly from inside the zip file. You must extract it first so it can save your settings.
## 2. Running the Application (Security Warnings)
This application is not digitally signed, you will likely see a security warning from Windows Defender SmartScreen the first time you run it. This is normal.
1. Double-click **`cs_remote.exe`** to launch the app.
2. **Windows Protected Your PC:** If a blue window appears saying "Windows protected your PC", do the following:
- Click the **More info** link (underlined text).
- A new button will appear. Click **Run anyway**.
3. The application will now launch. You only need to do this once; Windows will remember your choice next time.
## 3. License Activation
You can access your licence key on the customer portal here: [https://polar.sh/aulwa/portal](https://polar.sh/aulwa/portal/request)
- On the first launch, you will see a **License Entry** screen.
- Ensure your computer is connected to the internet.
- Paste your License Key into the field and click **Activate License**.
- Once validated, the main application window will open.
## 4. The `cs_remote-config.json` Configuration File
- After activation, a file named `cs_remote_config.json` will be created in the same folder as the application.
- **Purpose:** This file stores your license activation and application settings.
- **Note:** If you decide to move the application to a different folder or computer, ensure you move this `cs_patch_remote.json` file along with the ``cs_remote_config.exe` file. If the file is missing, you will be asked to enter your license key again.
